Create A Quit Plan

The first step in quitting is to create a plan. Follow these steps to develop your own personal Quit Plan:

  1. Establish your reasons for quitting and write them down
  2. Develop tips that will help you quit so they will be ready for you to use when you need them
  3. Set your quit date
  4. Identify who can help you when you need support
  5. Adopt new skills and behaviors to help you cope
  6. Ask your health care provider about medications that will help you quit
  7. Be prepared for challenging moments and difficulties, including relapse
